The holiday’s are coming to a close and it’s once again time to ring in the New Year. The International Spy Gala: Hosted at the Washington Plaza Hotel, this is a Masquerade party with a very DC twist. First Night Alexandria: Looking for something family friendly or without booze? Cross the river to old town Alexandria for night of fun featuring 28 venues and over 150 live performances. General admission is $30 but active duty military are free. Events start at 2 so plan ahead to stay for the fireworks over the Potomac river at Midnight.
Pianist Cyrus Chestnut at Blues Alley: One of the gems in the districts live Music scene, Blues Alley is home to a constant stream of world class musicians and New Year’s Eve will be no exception. Cyrus Chestnut is bringing his Trio to the city for two shows that promise to be some of the best live music anywhere. With a great menu of Southern inspired cuisine, this event is something you don’t want to miss.
Start the year with a laugh: DC Improv is getting ready to celebrate 25 years of humor by presenting comedian Tom Rhodes and several guests. Tickets for the late show include a Champagne toast Midnight as well as party favors. After 2016, we all need some laughter in our lives.
Enjoy some retro nostalgia: DAR constitution hall is hosting the legendary Funk and Soul band Maze with special guest El Debarge. If you’re a child of the 80’s these are two acts that you do not want to miss. Make sure to bring your dancing shoes for this party.
